Michael's Platform

Democracy & Transparency

Beacon Hill remains one of the least transparent legislatures in the country. If elected, I will work to:

  • Ensure the full implementation of the voter-approved 2024 audit.

  • End public records exemptions currently shielding the Governor’s Office, Legislature, and Judiciary.

  • Reestablish term limits for the Speaker of the House. A maximum of eight consecutive years is enough for someone invested with so much power—regular turnover in who serves as the House speaker is healthy for the body and for democracy.

  • Seek a seat on the House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight. This is the only committee with subpoena power in the House.

  • Eliminate consolidated budget amendments that obscure important votes from public view.

  • Require the House to debate the full budget in open session, accessible to both the media and public.

  • Establish an independent, non-partisan agency modeled on the Congressional Budget Office to analyze Massachusetts’ state budget and economy.

Economic Justice & Tax Fairness

For too long, people in our state have been forced to pay more for less. If elected, I will work to improve the economy and lower the cost of living for seniors, young people, and working families by:

  • Banning “spread pricing” by pharmacy benefit managers to lower prescription drug costs.

  •  Raising the Massachusetts Child and Family Tax Credit from $440 to $1,750 per child, making it refundable—so families can receive the credit even if they owe no state income tax—and raising the eligible age limit from 13 to 17.

  •  Increasing taxes on Massachusetts-based corporations that shelter profits in offshore tax havens.

  • Implementing a graduated income tax rate to ease the financial burden on seniors, young people, and working families.

  • Preventing MassHealth from filing recovery claims on estates valued at $1 million or less.

  • Cosponsoring An Act Relative to Payments in Lieu of Taxation by Organizations Exempt from the Property Tax to make large tax-exempt institutions pay their fair share in property taxes and reduce the financial burden on the working class.

  • Working to establish a statewide program based on TasteNY, to give MA food and beverage producers a leg up by promoting their products in state-owned sales venues.

Universal Healthcare

I will co-sponsor and vote for legislation to establish a statewide universal healthcare program in Massachusetts. Our state has been a national leader in healthcare before, and we can do it again. Everyone deserves a life free from the fear of the financial burden of chronic disease and from the soul-destroying bureaucracy of the American health insurance industry. Let's bring an end to copays, deductibles, and surprise bills. Healthcare is a human right, and I will treat it that way.

Energy & Environment

The cost of energy continues to rise in Massachusetts. Our gas and electric rates are some of the highest in the nation. Part of the reason for this is the state's lack of energy generation capacity. In the legislature, I will:

  • Advocate for renewable energy sources such as low-head hydroelectric and tidal power along our coast.

  • Work to improve Mass Save by offering subsidized upgrades to middle-income households and promoting electrification to reduce our reliance on natural gas.

  • Work to repeal the exemption to sales and use taxes for data centers. Massachusetts ratepayers should not bear the cost of upgrading the electrical grid on behalf of the Ai industry.

Digital Regulation & Consumer Protection

Big Tech should not be allowed to profit from exploiting our personal data. As someone with experience working in AI, I understand the speed at which this issue is becoming more pronounced. If elected, I will work to:

  • Criminalize the creation of AI-generated or Computer-Edited Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

  •  Force mental health chatbot suppliers to disclose to consumers that they are speaking with a chatbot.

  • Ban companies using therapist chatbots from selling or sharing personally identifiable health information.

  • Ban surveillance pricing statewide.

  •  Require the disclosure of AI when collecting personal health information or providing medical advice.

  •  Require clinical practices that use AI to instruct patients on how to reach a human being with medical training.

Practicing Accessibility & Transparency

Throughout this campaign and afterward, I will practice what I preach by:

  • Not taking campaign contributions from corporate PACs or lobbyists.

  • Making my campaign's OCPF reports readily available to the public by publishing them on social media and linking them here on my website for all to see.

  • Conducting in-person bi-annual town hall meetings so that citizens can receive updates on legislation and ask questions about state government.

  • Holding regular district office hours, where constituents can meet with me and my staff to have casework addressed.
